We all have tricks and ways to get through the bumps in the road and the times when life seems hard and unfair. More often than not, that plan will involve the help of another person. But what happens if that support is not available to you?
How To Admit Yourself To A Psychiatric Hospital
We want to get 50 people to volunteer for this scheme. You can show interest now. There is no obligation but you will receive more and be invited to apply. We are looking for kind people who care about this issue and want to help. You don’t need to have previous experience or skills, just the compassion that comes from wanting to help someone else. We are looking for adults (Over 18) of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds to participate.
We will arrange to chat with you, talk about the project in more detail and invite you to join.
We will then train you in Mental Health First Aid and provide you with a supportive network through Space to Breathe. Training starts in January and will include two Saturday mornings, homework followed by a 1:1 session.
Over time and once the training is complete, we will connect you with someone who will support you. This will be done in a safe and easy way through our Social Cafe or other measures. Ways to contact your Buddy and help them when you can will be managed. All of this will be done alongside existing Mental Health support in the city and the services and care the person is already receiving. Your role is to offer friendship and the kind of support that comes with a cup of tea and the knowledge that someone is there.

Spend time doing things you enjoy – this could include reading, cooking, other activities around the house or listening to the radio or watching TV shows.

So try not to worry about what you can’t control and focus on what you can. Look after yourself and each other. Prioritizing mental health has never been more important than now. Making positive changes can seem overwhelming, especially in uncertain times, and sometimes it can be difficult to know where to start. Here are some tips to help you maintain your mental health:

3) Do you use relaxation techniques at home? (ie focused breathing – breathing in longer than breathing out, apps to improve sleep, meditation, reading, quiet apps)
4) Are you focused on healthy eating? (ie eating fresh unprocessed foods, eating 5 fruits or vegetables a day, eating 3 balanced and regular meals/day, reducing snacks)
5) Are you staying hydrated? (ie 1.6 liters / day for women 2.0 liters for men – recommended according to the Euro-pean Food Safety Authority)
9) Have you completed a wellness plan? (ie. Every mind matters 5 simple questions that lead to a personal plan for your use)?
