An important part of any art collection is its presentation, a craft that can enhance and become part of its story. Susana Domínguez, winner of the National Artistic Bookbinding Award in Spain (2017), is an expert in this fine discipline and the founder of the Códex studio, a place of international reference in the art of bookbinding. Through his continuous research and testing of different materials and methods, he develops new solutions that suit the needs of each art sector.
In her first lesson, Susana taught the basics of Needleless Knitting to create your own art book. In this tutorial, he teaches you how to join loose pages to bind them without folds and with a full opening of 180º without losing the print, image or other details. Use images by itself or add other tools as a supporting structure, and produce two types of models in a simple way, without the need for prior experience.

Start by getting an overview of the types of paper, materials, and equipment you will use in the course. He shows you how to prepare images printed on rice paper and how to transfer them to cotton paper to prepare the basis of two prototypes for the course. He also shows you how to dye and texture leather.
Now, see how to join the parts to create two types of presentation: join the two parts to create a bifolium, then see each step of creating a concertina with your bifolium or in the form of a book made in the codex.

Susana has been awarded in Spain and other European countries for her work in the world of bookbinding and since 2006, she has been teaching at the Códex studio, together with Guadalupe Roldán. Códex, the studio he founded, has become an international center for bookbinding art, and a place for the exchange of ideas and knowledge in which a large number of bookbinders and artists of different nationalities who have received their education.
Courses are online classes that give you the tools and skills you need to complete a specific project. Each step of the project combines video lessons with additional learning materials, so you can learn by doing. Tutorials also allow you to share your projects with other teachers and students, creating a strong learning community.
All courses are 100% online, so once published, courses start and end whenever you want. You set the pace for the team. You can go back and review your favorite things and skip what you already know, ask questions, answer questions, share your projects, and more.
