Academy Of Art University Online Classes Reviews – You will be by my side as I complete my Interior Design Institute online certification. This first part describes my decision-making process and his review of the first two modules.
Already having a bachelor’s degree but wanting to invest more in my passion for interior design, I was at a crossroads on what to do. should i go back to school? Or should I look for an online program? Since the original writing of this post, I have written another post to help you decide on the same question. My final decision was to get an online certification. And then I ended up going to an interior design institute. But not after much searching, deliberation, and more searching.

Bachelor Of Arts
I already have a bachelor’s degree in communications, so I’m not planning on doing a bachelor’s degree in interior design, at least not for now. So online certification classes were an option for me, both in terms of time and money.
My goal in taking this course was to start working independently in interior design. I knew I didn’t want to get into a big interior design firm, so four-year college didn’t seem like a big deal.
I used to take an 8-week evening course at a nearby school, Emory University. Indeed, it has given me a lot of design inspiration. However, there was no certification and I left the class feeling that I had more to learn.
In other words, it is a source of anxiety for those who always want to make the most informed decisions possible.

But I wanted to get certified, so I was happy to pay. I knew that by paying, I would likely get more value and that my education would be more justified.
Cherish it and prioritize it. We all know one of the 101 principles of persuasive psychology.
After narrowing my search a bit more, I had two good online options in front of me: the New York Institute of Art and Design (NYIAD) and the Interior Design Institute (IDI).
Both, of course, had glowing reviews on their websites, but I really struggled to find good reviews elsewhere on the internet.

(And due to the lack of reviews, I wanted to write this review to help everyone who was in the same boat as me!)
But one thing that finally put me off was that the Interior Design Institute shared some of its graduates along with his IG handle. I was also impressed by the performance of the alumni.
That’s largely what made my decision because that’s really all I had to do.
IDI is just under $1,000 ($1,099 for him when split across multiple payments) for a 12-module certification course.

You can also take this course and the Darren Palmer Masterclass for $1,399 ($1,499 paid). There are also many advanced modules available for $199 on topics such as AutoCAD, commercial design, and landscape design.
I chose The Interior Design Institute, a slightly more expensive option. We wanted the website to look a little more professional, we liked seeing student work, and the cost was equal to the value.
The great thing is that after I had already made my decision, I reached out to them wanting to work with them to provide a detailed and honest review to potential interior design students on the internet.

Stay tuned for three separate blog posts, including this one, about my experience as I progress through the course.
First halfway through module 2, then module 6 at the halfway point, and finally when the program is complete.

The Interior Design Institute Review: Part 1
There are 12 modules and I set a goal of one module per week. However, most people are told that it will be finished in 6 months. So the module-by-module plan might be a bit optimistic.
However, we get it. I have a full-time job and run this blog (which is basically a full-time job in itself), so I’ll hit the brakes when necessary.
You have access to the course for a full year (with the possibility of extending it if needed), so it seems very well suited to be as flexible as you need in terms of hours.
Each module will be explained, and the whole will be summarized at the end. I thought this was the best way to hear my opinion and get a feel for the content that students get at the same time.

Since this is an introductory module, there are some logical things to do, such as what to expect first and how to get the most out of the course. Next, understand what interior design is, design philosophy, and design theory.
It was a little fluffy, something you could learn with a quick Google…but it gets a little meaty after the first few sections.
This is the more core information I was hoping for. We’ll go into an overview of the technical aspects of the design. For me, this helped me start bridging the gap between just looking at design and actually knowing what I was doing.
It seems that this is an introduction and most topics will be covered in detail in later modules. But honestly, it was pretty solid for the first lesson.

Half of me expected (but didn’t want) the allocation to be a little fluffier, like a creative project.
Maybe it’s because I’m an absolute perfectionist, but it took me three tries to complete this task.
Basically, apply your knowledge of all the elements (there are 7 of them) and the principles (there are 5 of them) to three separate rooms. To get past that, I really needed cross-references and cross-references between my notes and the examples they provided.
Pretty solid first impressions of the first assignment. It was definitely fun, but there’s no denying that it required critical thinking and a critical perspective.
Interior Design Schools Worth Applying To
I love this! It was like a massive history lesson, not just about design, but about society in general.
This module is considerably longer than the first and traces the complete architectural timeline of the world from the first documented buildings to the present day. There is a small introduction to how architecture intertwines with interior design, but the rest applies to all different eras.
We recommend downloading your coursework to your tablet and annotating it, or printing it out and writing it down physically. There’s a lot of information out there, so it’s best to highlight what’s important so you can easily access it later.
Blue is for historical information, orange is for visual components, and green is for important names. Other times, you might write a short, easy-to-understand blurb next to a longer paragraph so that it’s easier to access later.

A lot of this is general knowledge and a bit of a note-taking 101, but I found it very helpful, so I thought I’d share that particular plan.
This module gives me a lot of information, but it also references things I am unaware of. It could be a specific architectural feature I don’t know, a historical reference I don’t understand, or a designer I’d like to know more about. It was useful for
Just like regular classes, they provide everything you need to know. But if you want to go beyond that, take the initiative and do a little bit of your own research.
Additionally, a quick Google search for the era of architecture, or “art deco architecture,” can help provide some visual background before starting this section.

In my case, I finished reading the material, reviewed it the next day, made a few pages of notes, and started doing my homework the next day. You have time, so pack everything and don’t burn yourself out.
This challenge is a little less intense than last time as it is more focused and narrower in scope. what you have to do
